Single-Spud with Multi-Anchor

The spud carrier method is one of the most widely used and precise dredging techniques for cutter suction dredgers (CSDs). It is especially suitable for projects requiring high accuracy, such as trench dredging and operations in confined areas.

Once the dredger reaches the starting point, the main spud is lowered into the seabed, and the auxiliary spud is lifted. Based on soil conditions and hydrodynamic factors, a forward stepping distance is determined. After completing a dredging cycle, the dredger swings back to the centerline and advances forward using the hydraulic system.

This process is repeated in cycles, ensuring that the cutter head follows a consistent and controlled path.

Key Advantages:

  • High positioning accuracy
  • Stable cutter movement
  • Reduced risk of over-dredging or under-dredging

The maximum dredging width is typically 1.1–1.2 times the vertical distance between the spud and the cutter head, with swing angles usually limited to ±40°.

The spud carrier method is the preferred choice for projects that demand precision and consistency.
